Change one thing at a time
If you change food, supplement, and shampoo in the same week, you'll never know what made the difference. Give each change three to four weeks.
Three common behaviours most dog owners recognise. What's easy to miss is that they can be connected. And that the gut can be part of the problem.
Where most people start
The itching shows on the outside, so that's where you look. You change the food. You check for fleas. You rinse the paws after the walk. Sometimes it helps. Often it comes back a few weeks later.
Over the past decade, research into the canine gut microbiome has grown quickly. Part of it concerns what's called the gut-skin axis: the relationship between the bacteria in the gut and what happens in skin and coat.
Checklist
Tick what you see in your dog. No single item means anything on its own, it's the pattern over time that matters. It's also the first thing a vet will ask about.
Tick what applies and we'll sum it up.
The gut-skin axis
Around 70% of a dog's immune system sits in the gut. The microbiome, meaning the bacteria living there, is part of how the immune system is calibrated. When it's out of balance, the gut is rarely the only place you notice.
The research here is young. It shows association, not cause, and an imbalanced microbiome does not explain every itch. But it is one of the few factors you can support daily, which is why more dog owners start there.
Published study
In a randomised controlled trial published in Veterinary Dermatology (Salichs et al., 2025), 35 dogs were followed for 90 days. The group given the probiotic strain Bacillus velezensis C-3102, the same strain in GUT, had fewer relapses and less licking and scooting than the control group.
The study concerns anal sac impaction, not itching in general. We include it because it was run on our strain and published in a dermatology journal.
Dosing
Dosing follows body weight, one scoop per 12kg. The scoop is in the pouch. Move the slider and we'll work out the rest.

Practical
If you change food, supplement, and shampoo in the same week, you'll never know what made the difference. Give each change three to four weeks.
Date, behaviour, what the dog ate. A pattern on paper is worth more than a memory, both for you and for the vet.
Probiotics, prebiotics, and postbiotics are the category the research is looking at. This is also the only one of the three where we sell something. Worth knowing.
How we do it
Probiotics, prebiotics, and postbiotics in one daily dose. Ten functional ingredients, each with a job. No artificial colours or preservatives.
Bacillus velezensis C-3102, a spore-forming strain that survives stomach acid, and Enterococcus lactis.
Printed on the pouch. Most chews don't disclose this at all.
C-3102 is EU-authorised as a gut flora stabiliser for dogs.
One 2.5g scoop per 12kg bodyweight. The scoop is in the pouch.
No chew that needs holding together. Only what does the work.
Made in the EU. 24-month shelf life at room temperature.
The routine
One scoop a day, adjusted to your dog's weight. That's the whole routine.
Sprinkle over their usual food, wet or dry. The powder mixes straight in.
Give it two weeks. Early changes can be easy to miss, so keep the routine consistent and follow your dog's pattern over time.
Background
We went looking for a supplement we trusted and mostly found chews with long ingredient lists. So we made our own, with a Belgian lab that works to published research standards.
Nelson tested it first. He was not impressed by the process. He eats it every morning.
If it isn't a fit
Your first pouch is covered. If GUT isn't right for your dog, email us with the order number and a line about why. We refund the first pouch. No return shipping, no hassle.
Common questions
It varies from dog to dog. Keep the routine consistent and give it four weeks before you judge.
€39 for a 120g pouch. How long it lasts depends entirely on your dog's weight: around twelve days for a 40kg dog, up to three months for a small one. The slider above works it out for your dog. Subscriptions cost less per pouch and can be cancelled any time.
The powder mixes into wet or dry food. Most dogs eat as usual. If your dog is sensitive to new flavours, start with half the amount for the first week.
All breeds, from Chihuahua to Great Dane, with the dose set by weight. Not for puppies under four months. If your dog is pregnant or has a health condition, talk to your vet first.
